JOB POSTING: General Manager — fu-GEN Theatre Company and ARC (80% / 20%)

Salary: Please submit salary expectation
Province: Ontario
Region: Metro Toronto Area
City: Toronto
Term: Full-time

fu-GEN is an independent arts organization dedicated to the development of professional Asian Ca-nadian theatre artists through the production of new and established works. The General Manager and Artistic Director represent the core staff of the organization who work alongside a handful of part-time and contract workers throughout the season, as needed. fu-GEN manages an office in Cabbagetown which includes an active rental workshop space and is a resident company of the Aki Studio in Daniels Spectrum, a vibrant arts and culture venue in Regent Park.

ARC is a diverse company of resident theatre artists dedicated to three central pursuits: presenting contemporary international works that have rarely – if ever – been staged in Canada; taking a rig-ourous, energetic, and innovative approach to re-imagining world theatre classics; and mining inter-national literature to devise original theatrical work. The General Manager and the Artistic Producer will lead the company’s administrative pursuits and maintain organizational health throughout the season.

Two of Toronto’s most exciting independent companies are partnering to look for an energetic and innovative individual to play a role in shaping the future of theatre in this city.

Reporting to the Boards of Directors, the General Manager carries out all administrative operations required to achieve the organizational vision of the companies. The General Manager is the administrative head of both companies and works closely, and in equal partnership, with the Artistic Director of fu-GEN and the Artistic Producer of ARC. The position will manage both fu-GEN – a small-ish organization with an office, essential staff and rental studio – and ARC, a smaller organization. The work will be split 80/20 between fu-GEN and ARC.

The ideal candidate for this position will be passionate, dedicated to the artistic mission and vision, and committed to the growth of operational capacity over the next several years via a strategic plan. They should be equally at ease working with senior management positions as they are with mentoring emerging arts administrators. The position requires an adaptable personality who is comfortable working with a small, idealistic team of theatre makers towards a brighter, more diverse, increasingly inclusive theatrical ecology.
